South Brazil Popular Tour - November

13

days |

November 21 to December 3, 2028

Thirteen days through the south of Brazil, from the araucaria highlands of Paraná to the open pampas of the Uruguayan border, chasing southern endemics found nowhere else. We begin in Curitiba and the Araucaria forests of Irati, working for the rare Helmeted Woodpecker and White-bearded Antshrike, then drop to the Atlantic Forest of Joinville, the richest corner of Santa Catarina, home to Kaempfer's Tody-Tyrant and the threatened Marsh Antwren. We climb to Urupema, the coldest town in the country, where campos and araucaria hold the Long-tailed Cinclodes and Striolated Tit-Spinetail, then cross into Rio Grande do Sul for the marshes of São Francisco de Paula and the shorebird paradise of Lagoa do Peixe. We finish on the pampas of Bagé, among rare seedeaters and grassland specialists. Araucaria, highland, coast, and pampa, the south of Brazil in full.

BBE has been a great company to bird with! Our guide, Fernando, was super knowledgeable about the region's birds and was always happy to answer the group's questions. The group was a nice size, not too big, and the accommodations were nice independent spots. Even when I had an odd flight leaving the country they accommodated me and arranged my transport to the different airport. I would recommend this tour group to anyone!

BBE are a truly professional company, strategically planned and focussed on showing clients as many endemics and other birds as possible. They also chose good accommodation and many excellent meals. World class!
