Manaus + Amazonia National Park

June 15 to July 01, 2025

17

days

Difficulty

Medium

In the amazon region, the main rivers play an important role in the geographic separation and consequently the speciation process of many species. Amazing phenomena to observe in the field when you are birding in the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest. On this tour we amazingly cover 4 Amazonian endemism centers. Many sister species to see and compare as we cross massive rivers going from one region to the other. The major highlight of this tour compared to the others is the very little driving with a big compensation of bird species.

Difficulty level

Medium. Although there is very little walking in most of the locations, the hot and humid weather is very tiring in the Amazon. In Amazonia National Park is where we will be doing more walking. An average of 6-10km a day. Although this seems a lot, it is during the whole day and the trails are not steep. In the Manaus region we climb up to canopy towers but going up nice and slow will do the trick.

Thank you Olivia for organizing a fantastic 18 day bird filled exploration of Boa Vista and Manaus. Marcelo is a superbly skilled guide as well as an organized ground operator. 23 Parrots, 10 Puffbirds, 13 Manakins, 26 Antbirds, Giant Anteater, both River Dolphins and plenty of monkeys were just some of the highlights. Certainly the best fish/steaks I’ve ever eaten on a bird trip. I am already planning to explore another part of Brazil with BBE.

BBE dis a great job with this tour. The guide, Andre, is top-notch, really outstanding with the birds and with the guests. We stayed at pretty nice places and enjoyed surprisingly good food given the remoteness. Birding was a bit quiet (drought this year) but the quality was excellent and the final list was well beyond expectations. The pace as a bit aggressive for me personally, though others like it that way. All in all a fun trip to an exciting destination.

Another excellent trip with BBE ! Starting from the timely, comprehensive and informative pre-trip communication with Joanna to the outstanding birding skills by Andre who perfectly catered for everyone's wish when having detected a special bird - wow, that was indeed more than a 5-star birding experience! Looking forward to discover even more of Brazil's wonderful fauna and flora during the next trip!

Overall a great trip. Joanna did a great job of organizing things, and Arthur was an excellent guide. We saw amazing things!

This was my second time travelling with BBE, this time to the Amazon and South Brazil. Just as with my previous trip, I can wholeheartedly recommend birding with BBE. The itinerary they planned for me was perfect in terms of habitats visited, time spent at each site as well as the quality of the guides, food and accommodation. Particular mention goes to my guides Pablo Cerqueira (Amazon) and Fernando Farias (South Brazil), who were not only excellent company but also excellent guides who were not only familiar with their region's birds and where to find them, but were also fully dedicated to helping me get the best views of the most difficult birds.
