South Brazil Popular Tour - November

Thirteen days through the south of Brazil, from the araucaria highlands of Paraná to the open pampas of the Uruguayan border, chasing southern endemics found nowhere else. We begin in Curitiba and the Araucaria forests of Irati, working for the rare Helmeted Woodpecker and White-bearded Antshrike, then drop to the Atlantic Forest of Joinville, the richest corner of Santa Catarina, home to Kaempfer's Tody-Tyrant and the threatened Marsh Antwren. We climb to Urupema, the coldest town in the country, where campos and araucaria hold the Long-tailed Cinclodes and Striolated Tit-Spinetail, then cross into Rio Grande do Sul for the marshes of São Francisco de Paula and the shorebird paradise of Lagoa do Peixe.
