Pará Complete Tour - June
Twenty-one days and five Amazons in a single state. Pará is so vast that its great rivers, the Xingu, the Tapajós, the Amazon itself, slice it into five distinct interfluves, five separate evolutionary worlds, each with birds found nowhere else. The Pará Complete moves across all of them: the iron plateaus of Carajás in the Xingu, with Harpy Eagle and the booming White Bellbird; the threatened fragments of the Belém Area of Endemism, the most deforested corner of the Amazon, where the recently rediscovered Belém Curassow clings on; the terra firme, várzea, and Cerrado enclaves of the Tapajós around Santarém; the pristine trails of Amazônia National Park in the Rondônia interfluve; and the rocky savannahs of Monte Alegre, north of the river, in the Guiana. Because four of these five worlds lie entirely within Brazil, no other itinerary delivers more Brazilian Amazon endemics. Here biogeography becomes tangible: cross a river, and the birds change.
