Northeast Popular Tour - September
Eighteen days, two states, and three of Brazil's great biomes. The Northeast Popular Tour is the most accessible way into the wonders of Brazil's Northeast. We begin in the windy coasts and humid highland of Ceará State, reaching its southern borders in the Chapada do Araripe, the only place on Earth to see the Araripe Manakin. Then we cross the dry, sculptural Caatinga toward the canyons of Canudos in Bahia, stronghold of the unmistakable Lear's Macaw. Over roughly 4,000 kilometers we thread together Atlantic Forest fragments, Caatinga, and Cerrado, piecing together a region of staggering endemism, reaching nearly 100 endemics by the end of the tour. It keeps the two great trophies of the Northeast without the full length of the 25-day Supreme, making it ideal for birders with less time but who still want the highlights. Expect early mornings, warm days, and the great thrill of birds found nowhere else.
