Ricardo Parrini

Ricardo Parrini is a biologist graduated from Universidade Gama Filho, Rio de Janeiro. Since 1987, he has traveled extensively across Brazil studying birds and their natural history, building deep expertise in Taxonomy, Biogeography, and Bird Vocalizations.

One of the defining moments of his career came in October 1996, when he rediscovered the Kinglet Calyptura (Calyptura cristata) in the Serra dos Órgãos National Park — a species that had not been reliably recorded since the 19th century and was feared extinct. The sighting made history in South American ornithology.

Along with other Brazilian ornithologists, Ricardo has published scientific articles in national and international journals. He is also the author of three landmark books on the birds and natural history of the Atlantic Forest: Quatro Estações (2015), A Floresta de um Naturalista (2020), and A Conquista da Floresta (2024).

Since 1997, he has guided birders across Brazil for national and international companies, as well as independently. His regular destinations include the Atlantic Forest of Southeast Brazil, Northeast Brazil, the Pantanal, and the Amazon.
